Flawed, but not terrible

Offers a sympathetic and generally balanced (dry facts versus spiritual exposition) biography of St. Francis with some issues stemming from the Author's prejudices. Some interpretive additions ("doubtless..."), avoidance of the supernatural, and plenty of typical 19th century Protestant anti-medieval, anti-Catholic-church, anti-clerical rhetoric and explication of history.
