Serving the Faithful Since 1960

This book makes an extremely valuable contribution to our understanding of African-American religious life by presenting the first full-length treatment of the Black Catholic experience. It should be read by all interested in the history and culture of Black Americans.

The History of Black Catholics in the US

Fr. Davis traces the parallel histories of slavery and Catholicism of black people from the African continent to the Americas. He provides interesting details and context for the reader but keeps the story moving. I appreciate the extensive number of references/footnotes which allow the reader to find additional detail. This book is an important read for understanding the complicated history of slavery, the extent of Catholic involvement and acceptance of slavery in the US and ho the church benefited from it.

Relevant for our Church today

I have read and taught The History of the Catholic Church in America, but I never realized that the "usual" texts were not inclusive. Thank you to the men and women who invited me to read THIS History. It is not an easy read, but it is enlightening and inspiring.

Thank you for visiting us today! May God Bless You!
