OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary as patroness of the Carmelite Order. Mt Carmel from pre-Christian times was a "sacred" mountain. Today it is in northern Israel. Our Lady was the patroness of the first Carmelites - Christian hermits living on Mt Carmel in the 12th and early 13th century.
Devotion to our Lady at Mt Carmel since the 15th century is centered on the "Brown scapular" said to be given by Our Lady to St Simon Stock. The first devotion to our Lady of Mt Carmel is believed to be in England. The wearing of the Brown Scapular is a devotional sacramental signifying the wearer's consecration to Mary - one of the promises of St Simon Stock's vision as those who die wearing the scapular will be saved.
THIS LOVELY SACRED IMAGE OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL GIVES THE INTER-PEACE FOUND IN CONTEMPLATION OF OUR LADY'S ROLE AS INTERCESSOR AND PROTECTOR.
