One of the richest liturgies in the Catholic Church, the Easter Vigil is held in the dark of night. When the first match is struck, it represents Christ rising from the tomb and goes on to light the Easter Fire. On our sock you can see the Easter Fire lit on the toe and the darkness slowly dispel upwards. The light then reaches the Paschal Candle which is marked with an Alpha and Omega symbol. It also has gold pins pressed into the cross representing the wounds of Christ. From the Paschal Candle, individual candles are then lit, reminding the congregants of their baptism. This vigil is also the time when Catechumens are baptized and their candles will be lit symbolizing bringing the light of Christ into their lives.
