The Art of Della Robbia
Luca della Robbia, in the 15th century, was the first and perhaps the only artist who managed to bring recognition to the art of ceramics rivaling that of painting and sculpture. Luca perfected the process of making clay reliefs and figures permanent by coating them with a glaze compounded of tin, terraghetta, antimony and other materials. The Della Robbias, the dynasty of Italian artists, have spread with great success the art of enameled terracotta throughout Tuscany and all of Italy.
