CHURCH RENOVATION PROJECT
Great things are happening at Sacred Heart Church in Effingham, IL!!
The restoration of the church is in its third week, and the nave is completely bare. The carpet (and lots of glue) has been removed, and the sanctuary platform is being transformed to allow for a handicap-accessible ramp up to the altar.
With regards to the outside of the church, the north-side canopy has been taken down, and concrete is being removed as we make room for the new Narthex addition which will serve as a true entrance into our church as well as a place for gathering and fellowship.
As part of our renovation project, the current Crucifix as well as the Tabernacle from the first Sacred Heart Church were transported to Missouri this past week so that both pieces can be restored for use in our new worship space! Catholic Supply of St. Louis -- a company with a long history of working with Sacred Heart Parish, starting back in the 60’s with Fr. Wiegand -- will repair and refinish the Crucifix so that it can be suspended above our new Altar in the Sanctuary. They will also clean and re-plate the Tabernacle to restore its beauty. What a wonderful blessing it will be to utilize this piece of history in our restored church! Special thanks to the Harry Bierman family for their generous donation to restore both of these pieces. It’s important to also note that the original Tabernacle was donated in memory of Ella Donnelly and Pauline McDevitt.
Again, we are most grateful to all those who are giving of their time, talent, and treasure to make this restoration project possible. May God bless you!
